Built With Professional Creators In Mind

Motive is an easy choice as a professional production space. We’ve worked with local & national brands, agencies, creatives, and businesses to bring their creative visions to life. Located in downtown Kansas City in the historic West Bottoms, we offer privacy, elevator access, discrete parking for high-profile clients, and plenty of amenities for professional production teams.

Motive primarily operates as a photo studio rental and is equipped with industry-standard production equipment including a built-in top-down system perfect for product flat-lays, paper backdrops, props, furniture, and unique decor. Our in-house team utilizes high-end production equipment and is also capable of producing photo & video content in a multitude of styles. We hope to provide you with the best possible service Kansas City has to offer for your booking!

Our Spaces

Motive operates three unique spaces. A classic portrait space, boudoir space, and 1bedroom loft space. All of our spaces are able to be booked online with real-time availability and come with additional unique perks. They make booking a professional production space easy! Each space can be rearranged and customized for your own production set design.

The classic space is our flagship professional production space with 1500sqft original hardwood floor space located in a historic brick building in Kansas City’s West Bottoms district. Of the 1500sqft, roughly 1300sqft are accessible and customizable. The only stationary design piece is the main centerpiece lamp, the backdrop holders, and the overhead lighting truss.

The boudoir space is a 700sqft hardwood laminate natural light space located one floor below our main classic space. All 700sqft are accessible and customizable. Stationary design pieces are a faux grass wall and backdrop mounts. All other furniture and props can be moved and repositioned.

The loft space is a residential 1 bedroom loft located in the crossroads district in downtown Kansas City. It is a traditional loft with 18-foot ceilings, exposed brick, a kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom. All furnishings can be moved and customized as necessary.

Light & Sound

Each of our spaces comes with unique lighting and sound conditions. We know how important it is to know exactly what you’re getting into when renting a new space. We’ve included as much information as possible to help you make an informed and confident decision on your rental.

–  Space comes equipped with blackout curtains and adjustable lights. All light can be shut off in the space.

During the winter months (October-February). You can expect the light beams to reach 12-15 feet into the space between the hours of 12 pm-4 pm.

During the spring and summer months (March-September), the light beams retreat as the sun climbs higher in the sky, You can expect continuous light with beams that reach 5-7 feet into the space between the hours of 2 pm-6 pm.

The classic space is located in a historic hardwood floored brick building. The space is located on the 5th floor and the other tenants in the building are primarily art studios. We’ve hosted professional productions where audio was paramount. The spaces work best for stationary scenes with live sound. Additional considerations:

– There are nearby train tracks and a train will roll by with noticeable sound every 2-3 hours. The sound lasts for up to 45 seconds to 1:30.

–  The building is brick and wood, and there will be creaks and other small noises. Most of them are below -70db and barely perceptible via live audio

–  There are other building tenants who hold events during the nighttime. This should not affect full-day productions that run 8am-5pm. We will inform all crews prior to booking about any possible interruptions or events happening in the building that could cause noise buildup.

–  The space uses a window unit air conditioner that keeps it cool in the summer. The air conditioner can be turned on & off by crew.

–  Space comes equipped with blackout curtains and adjustable lights. All light can be shut off in the space.

–  Space does not come with lights or additional tools and is natural light only.

Access & Parking

Crew & Talent can access our spaces in a variety of ways. Our two Hobbs building spaces offer a large 3000lb freight elevator for crew load-in. This elevator will bring your crew within 10 feet of both the boudoir and classic spaces. All of our spaces are accessible via remote access and buzz-in systems.

How To Get To Our Space Once Inside

Proceed to the back of the building and enter through the doors on the loading dock. Walk straight to the elevator and proceed to the 5th floor. Our Classic Portrait Space is located just to the left in Suite 505.

How To Get To Our Space Once Inside

Crew & Clients have two ways they can get to our space:

Stair Access
Enter through the north doors. Use the stairs to the left, proceed to the 2nd floor, and follow the hallway to the left Our loft space is located just to the left in #209.

Elevator Access
Enter through the north doors and proceed straight and down the ramp to the left. Take a right and take the elevator to the 2nd floor Our loft space is located just to the right n #209.
